a new meaning for feminism: the story of my life

Eat it!

I am considering a small experiment. I’m a graduate student at Yale University. There is so much wealth and so much irresponsibility here that it’s nothing short of remarkable. I wonder how much food Yale produces that is wasted. People at Yale do not appreciate food as a resource - instead it is used as a marketing tool. Come to this talk because there will be food….

That’s silly to me. I mean when food becomes part of a community bonding experience great. But a friend actually complained to me the other day because she found the cheese and crackers at a particular department’s colloquium to be boring and not fulfilling. When did it get this bad? Since when is it the role of the University to satisfy your hunger. How dare you complain about free food meant to please you. How privileged have we gotten here that we forget that food is a precious resources.

I propose an experiment (to take place in 2 weeks):

I will eat only Yale food for a week (no dining halls - just at events) and calculate how much food is wasted at those events.

Resolve: We can be more responsible, we can do better!
